=Biography= Actress Marie Avgeropoulos is an easygoing, outdoorsy girl from Northern Ontario, one whom the gods have smiled upon. Consider the facts. She grew up amid the pristine wilderness, along the shores of Lake Superior. During her childhood, she learned to hunt, fish, and, less conventionally, to drum. Years later, a friend alerted her to a casting call for a drummer. Avgeropoulos showed up, gained a talent agent and, with one commercial under her belt, landed a role in the upcoming film I Love You, Beth Cooper helmed by A-list director and producer Chris Columbus. It was such a big first job, she thought it best not to let her fellow cast and crew know that she’d never really acted before – and so, she learned rudimentary film acting on the fly, like what it meant to hit a mark.
Since that auspicious debut, she’s landed roles in the new CBS show Harper’s Island, along with parts in Supernatural and The Guard. Given her meteoric rise, she’s relocated from the wilds of the Thunder Bay area to even more scenic vistas in B.C. and now lives on a mountainside near Vancouver.
Her career is on fast forward, but in between film and TV roles, she still finds time to relax and kick back, her drumbeat occasionally breaking the alpine silence.

Marie Avgeropoulos met with photographer Darryl Humphrey for an exclusive TORO Woman shoot and revealed insights into her personality with the following Q&A.
Q: What is the quality you like most in a man?
A: Sense of adventure.
Q: The quality you like most in a woman?
A: Good listener.
Q: What is your present state of mind?
A: Excited for summer.
Q: Which living person do you most admire?
A: I most admire my mom. She supports me no matter what.
Q: What is your greatest extravagance and/or indulgence?
A: I feel like I’m really indulging in my inner strength and creativity when I’m just sitting around with some friends and jamming out a few tunes. Everyone picks up their instrument and when I sit down behind the drums and just have them all laid out in front of me, and that’s when I feel most empowered, definitely. It’s a really big stress reliever for me. It’s a meditative thing, therapeutic.
Q: What is your most treasured possession?
A: My dog, Calypso. She’s over a hundred pounds and I rescued her from the FPCA. She’s a mix between a mastiff and an American bulldog, a big girl. And she’s fresh in my mind because I almost frikkin’ lost her when she ran out the door today!
Q: Which talent - other than one you are blessed with - would you most like to have?
A: I would like to be able to surf. I’ve been a snowboarder since grade six, but I’ve been hearing all this buzz about how great the surfing is out here, so I’m really looking forward to testing the waters.
Q: Other than your present occupation, what occupation would you like to try?
A: Working with children. Kids are just so honest and innocent, and they possess something that we lose as adults. I have two nieces and two nephews and they’re the key to my heart, for sure, so working with kids.
Q: What is your greatest fear?
A: Losing my family.
Q: What trait do you deplore most in others?
A: Insecurity. And overly materialistic people as well.
Q: What trait do you deplore most in yourself?
A: I’d like to find a cure for the small-town Ontario trucker mouth that I’ve got.
Q: How do you mean?
A: Like swearing, cursing. I’ve got a potty mouth, absolutely. It doesn’t sound very ladylike. I call it the Thunder Bay accent.
Q: What do you most value in your friends?
A: I value that they’re always supportive of me, always have been no matter what. I’m kind of a spaz, and have had lots of interesting events always pop up in my life, and they’ve always stuck with me through it all.
Q: Interesting events?
A: People always tell me that I should write a book someday.
Q: Accidents? Strange encounters?
A: Well, let’s just leave it at that. I can’t give it all away. I’m just really thankful that I’m still here. I’m like a cat with nine lives - and must be on number six or seven by now . Never a dull moment.
Q: What is your motto?
A: Well-behaved women rarely make history.
